In 2021 Rhode Island passed the Act on Climate mandating greenhouse gas emissions reductions of 45% below 1990 levels by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. While this mandate is legally binding, it is not self-executing. The state must now follow through by adopting and implementing specific policies necessary to achieve those emissions reductions.
